#17. PIQUED PETANQUE PLAYER

The Petanque Players are serious.

The clack of silver balls brings cheers but also arguments. Whose ball is closest? They stand, eyeball, argue, measure with a shoe. “Mais oui!” “Mais non!” The talking lasts longer than the play just finished.

They begin again. Serious players carry a small cloth to keep their balls clean. Finally, a gray-haired veteran calls it a day:

“I quit! You guys are socializing.”

He means with the girls who stopped by to watch. So, he packs up his three balls in their special black cloth bag.

             “A demain.” Till tomorrow.
