#25. GOING TO THE BIRDS
Most people don’t notice them. Hand built wooden bird houses attached high in the trees. Kind of hidden and hard to see in summer with all the leaves.
For rent: aviary apartments. At least some New Yorkers won’t go homeless.
Who are the houses for?
There are people who count the birds in the Park, both the migratory visitors and the ones that live here year-round. The year-rounders are Pigeons, of course, though the bird houses are not for them. Then come Sparrows, Robins, Blue Jays, and Mourning Doves.
As for the visitors, in 2021 the people who count say they logged 45 unique species of birds in the Park.
My fave name: Yellow Rumped Warbler.
Look up if you visit the Park. See who’s at home.
