#39. DANCE PAINTING

#39. DANCE PAINTING

That’s what she calls it.

Kanami Kusajima comes to the Park regularly, lays out a sheet of white paper about 8 feet by 5 feet and takes off her shoes. She pours a bit of black sumi ink on the paper, the kind used in calligraphy. She starts music playing from a small speaker. Sometimes classical piano, sometimes jazz. And the dance begins.

She becomes a whirling dervish of movement, every step recorded in black on the paper. Think of it as finger painting with your feet. And at times she bends, squats, kneels, and rolls, and hands become as stained as her feet.

Speaking of stains, I think sumi ink is permanent. So, does she live with black hands and feet?
