#82. A CLOTHESLINE OF STORIES

#82. A CLOTHESLINE OF STORIES

That’s what it looks like when The Strangers Project shows up in the Park. A rack ten feet long with three lines of wash, with wooden clothes pins. The “wash” is letter-sized sheets of white paper. A sign says:

HI THERE. I’M COLLECTING YOUR STORIES.
                 STOP AND SHARE ANONYMOUSLY.

"What's it like being you?" That’s what Brandon Doman began to ask people in 2009. He’s done it now in 100 cities and collected 70,000 stories. Why?

"I want to create a space for people to connect with others through their stories. Share our lives, share our stories, and we see how wonderfully human we all are."

He shows up occasionally in the Park. Hands people a sheet of paper and a pen. to print or write on the spot. One page, one side. No online submissions allowed. It’s the quietest thing in the Park.

Writers scrunch over their pages with pen in hand.
Readers of writings stand statue-still perusing the pages.
