#95. SIGNS IGNORED
- “Why don’t they stop those skate boarders?”
- “I thought bikes were not allowed in the Park!”
- “What about amps? I thought amplified sound was a no-no.”
- “I don’t smoke, but when I sit in the Park, I feel like I’m smoking!"
Village folk sometimes blame the Park Conservancy when they see people breaking the Park rules. You didn’t know there were rules? There are, but they are set by the NYC Parks Department, not the Conservancy, which means Park officers or NYC police should be the enforcers. During the height of the stressful days of the pandemic, police became mostly hands-off about rules.
Except … just to confuse everyone they parked two huge electronic signs near the Arch. They flash 24 hours a day!
NO SOUND DEVICES NO SKATING NO ALCOHOL
NO BICYCLE RIDING NO SMOKING
Why? Everyone just ignores them. Although maybe the foreboding signs (pun intended) mean that a crackdown is coming. We’ll see.
